Garmin EDGE Bluetooth Sensor Limits

After chasing down some frustrating sensor connection issues on my own setup, I discovered something about Garmin Edge units that I really wish I’d known earlier. While Garmin states newer Edge computers can support up to 12 sensors, only three Bluetooth sensors can be actively connected at once. This limitation becomes very real as more devices move to Bluetooth-only connectivity. This deep dive explains how those limits actually work, why they can cause confusing sensor issues, and how I ended up discovering it the hard way.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I would add that when pairing a sensor that offers both bluetooth and ANT+, it is not obvious which option to choose from the pairing list. So very easy to “accidentally” use up a bluetooth slot on a sensor that could have used ANT+.
