28mm Road Tyres on a Giant TCR Disc 2019 // Do They Fit? // Continental GP5000 28mm Clincher Tests!

With the trend leaning towards wider road cycling tyres being a better ride, it’s time to find out if a set of 28mm clincher tyres fit on my 2019 Medium sized Giant TCR road bike. Given the differences in tyres, rims, frame clearances, etc, there’s not a lot of information out there on exactly what works and what doesn’t when it comes to specific setups. Today in the Lama Garage I test THREE sets of wheels all with different internal rim widths (17mm, 19mm, 21mm) with a set of Continental GP5000 28mm clincher tyres (~80psi) to see what fits and what doesn’t.

  1. Hi Shane – I am thinking of buying a pair of the Hunt 5040s and am wondering if you are enjoying them. Thank you!

    1. They’re still rolling well. I’ll do a follow up soon. Water ingress was an issue when I rode in pouring rain (just the once)… if you’re into wet riding, I’d ping them on how the latest models hold up with this.
